The Stuart Brannon series, book 6
The past overlaps the present when during Stuart Brannon's 40th birthday party, a 12-year-old Indian boy shows up on the doorstep with the shocking news that he is Brannon's son.
Brannon knows he has no son, this side of heaven but the boy Littlefoot was the Indian baby born during Hard Winter at Broken Arrow Crossing, and has been told by his mother Elizabeth that he is Brannon's son to spare him the shame of the truth that he was fathered by an outlaw. Elizabeth now lies dying in a Navajo camp, and Brannon is determined to find her before setting the boy straight.
But the search is complicated by the appearance of a canny outlaw Brannon once sent to prison, who is determined to have his revenge. Will Brannon make it to Elizabeth in time to speak with her again, and can he deal with the renewed grief and guilt over something he feels he should have been able to prevent?
A satisfying conclusion to the Brannon saga, as Bly comes neatly full circle. (May 2004)
